Description
In 1942 the Japanese swept across the Pacific on a tide of conquest that carried them all the way to the northern coast of New Guinea. Facing them was Australia's New guinea Force, a handful of raw troops, mainly boys in their teens, untrained in jungle warfare. A.I.F. reinforcements did arrive, but all were handicapped from the start by a supply debacle. Outnumbered by up to five to one, they stood alone on the Kokoda Trial, between the Japanese and the gateway to Australia, Port Moresby.
Retreat from Kokoda is the story of these Australian troops - their courage, skill and endurance that sowed the seeds of eventual victory - and of the ordinary Japanese soldier who suffered, stared and died in the same desperate campaign.
